Frequently Asked Questions

Wedding Photography

Who will actually be the photographer on the day of my wedding?
Kurtis Kronk is the owner and sole photographer at Kurtis Kronk Photography - you will never be photographed by another person unless an emergency stand-in is needed.
What happens if there's an emergency and you can't be there to take photos?
While I have never had to cancel a shoot or send a stand-in photographer, it would be foolish to think that nothing will ever go wrong. The only thing we can do is be prepared for when something inevitably does happen. Please know that I would only consider sending someone else if there is a real emergency. In the event that this does occur, I will make absolutely sure that a competent professional is able to shoot in my place and I will fill them in with all of the details they need to make sure things go smoothly.
How many hours will you shoot?
I provide full-day coverage for every wedding package. That means I will be taking pictures from the time you're getting ready well into the reception.
I know exactly what I want - will you take all the photos in my shot list?
I will do my best to accommodate special requests, but it is important to keep in mind that you are hiring me for my artistic eye and style. I will have a loose shot list in my head already, and I'm open to suggestions, but I can not guarantee that you're going to get every shot you (or I) would like. My mission is to capture the story of your day as it unfolds - this requires flexibility on my part, and a fixed list would only serve to distract me from my true purpose.
What equipment do you use? Film or digital?
I have at my disposal a Canon 5D Mk II plus a backup Canon 5D, an assortment of wide to tele high-speed zooms and prime lenses, external flashes and strobes, and portable power packs, to take on any assignment. While on assignment I shoot exclusively digital because of the flexibility in post-processing.
My uncle Bob has a really nice camera - do you mind if he takes pictures too?
I don't believe it's my place to tell you what you can and cannot do on your wedding day, but I will make a few points for your consideration. This will help you come to a decision for yourselves as to whether you want family and friends to take photos at your wedding.
  1. You are investing a sizable amount to hire me as your wedding photographer - it is more common than you might think for guests with cameras to ruin the pro's shots (Bob is in every shot and sometimes directly in my way, Bob's flash may go off at the wrong time and ruin my light, Bob is diverting eyeballs...).
  2. The more people there are taking photos, the less comfortable those who are being photographed will feel. It will interrupt the flow of the day and slow things down. And people look better in photos without a big camera hanging from their neck.
  3. While I will be a big part of your day, my job is to be a fly on the wall. You will notice me, but I will stay as low-key as possible while still getting the shots I need. Bob is not an experienced photo-ninja, and his Kung Fu will be less stealthy than my own.
With all that having been said, my recommendation is to ask your guests to leave their cameras at home. The fact is, you've done your research and hired a professional, and everyone can view the photos online in 2-3 weeks and they can order prints if they wish. If you decide to allow your guests to take pictures, that is absolutely fine with me so long as you're aware of the potential problems.
Do the wedding packages include digital editing & re-touching?
Absolutely. Half of what I do occurs behind-the-scenes in my studio, performing all the post-processing in my color managed workflow on a Mac Pro and 30" display. Capturing the moment is only half the battle.
Are prints included in the wedding packages?
My standard wedding coverage does not include any photographic prints, although every package does include at least one wedding album. Some of the packages and a la carte options do include prints, for example: engagement photography includes one 16x20 print on fine-art photo rag.
When will we get to see the photos?
It typically takes 2-3 weeks to edit wedding photos. Once the images have been edited, the next step is to view them on the big-screen in the studio and further refine the image selections and provide feedback on edits, etc...
Is a wedding album included in the wedding packages?
Every wedding package includes at least one beautiful, lay-flat panoramic wedding album. My albums are available in faux or genuine leather, silk, wood, and metal, and you really have to see and feel them to truly appreciate their remarkable build-quality and beauty. I encourage you to make an appointment if you'd like to experience the difference for yourself. You will cherish your memories for a lifetime with my albums.
How long does album delivery take?
After the album has been designed and submitted, usually 1-2 weeks after the in-studio proofing session, it will take 6-8 weeks for delivery.
Who retains the copyrights?
I always maintain copyrights for my images, however, I do offer a DVD of the high-res, edited images with a limited non-commercial copyright license as an option.
Can we print the photos ourselves or at a photo lab?
All prints are made by me in-studio on a professional large-format printer capable of printing on various media at a width of up to 24" in the shortest dimension (e.g. I can print up to 24x36" or even a 24x72" or longer panorama). I have a color-managed workflow, and printing myself ensures that my vision is seen all the way through to the print and the highest-quality results are achieved. The only exception to this is if you purchase the optional DVD with high-res, edited images which includes a limited non-commercial copyright license. I discourage this option, as I can't guarantee the quality of output once it's taken out of my hands, and only offer it because for some this is a deal-breaker.
