A few words from the bride: “Jack and I met in college, but we weren’t your typical ‘college sweethearts.’ We were both working as resident assistants at The Culinary Institute of America and knew each other distantly through friends. It wasn’t until 4 days before he was due to move to New Orleans for his externship that we even spent any real time talking to one another. After he left, we spent hours texting, talking on the phone and falling asleep on Skype. On a whim, one week after he drove from New York to Texas, he flew back up to see me, convincing me that starting a long distance relationship could actually work even though I thought he was crazy. I graduated that December and had a job offer to work at the new CIA campus in San Antonio, TX… where Jack is from.

Almost a year later we moved in together and adopted the best daughter-dog parents could ever ask for! Eleanor (or Ellie as we like to call her), was the key to our engagement. A soiled plan of playing fetch on some little league fields turned into a hasty trip to the dog park minutes before it closed because Jack insisted we take Ellie out to play. Little did I know he was tying the ring to her leash with a note saying, ‘Will you marry my daddy?’

I knew I was going to marry Jack the first night we spent talking until 9 am. We spoke of it freely and knew we always wanted a wedding that was completely ‘us.’ From the ceremony to the reception, there were details of our relationship present. Our favorite colors, our love of the outdoors and the fall, our love of food, our love of family and love for each other. We wanted a relaxed, fun feel that we feel our guests definitely got from everything. A few special details were included. The pouring of the spices: where our parents poured a base for Jack and I to pour ours then we shook them together. We also had a Lantern Release to end our night. We had guests write the names of passed loved ones they wanted to share the night with, everyone was escorted out to a field where we lit them and the eventful night ended with the soft glow of the lanterns fading away and the song ‘Di provenza il mar il suol’ playing in the background – a song my father dedicated to his father when he passed.”

Thanks for entrusting us with you special day, Gabriella & Jack! – Kurtis & MT
