KURTIS KRONK DESIGN

Kurtis subscribes to the design ethos of less is more; simplicity is the ultimate sophistication. He believes in starting the process of developing any solution by answering the question, WHY? What problem are we solving, what experience are we trying to improve, what assumptions should be challenged? He is passionate about developing intuitive and efficient user experiences that provide tangible value and bring a sense of joy. Those who know and have worked with Kurtis often refer to him as their “go-to guy” - if he doesn’t know the answer, he has the determination and skill set to figure it out, but also knows when he's out of his depth and has experts to turn to when necessary.

Examples of design projects include (but are not limited to):

  • Branding and collateral design
  • Web design and development
  • Rapid prototyping of UI / UX
  • Reusable branded wooden menu design
  • Design and fabrication of purpose-built wooden trays for catering
  • Commercial and residential layout planning and design in AutoCAD

With over 20 years of experience building tech businesses from the ground-up, Kurtis has a wide breadth of knowledge and an extension collection of proverbial hats. While in high school he co-founded an online technology publication, TheTechLounge, with nine staff writers all over the U.S.A. and built relationships with over a dozen Fortune 500 companies, earnings invitations to exclusive press events and pre-launch products for testing under NDA. His regular duties included developing testing methodologies and protocols for various computer hardware and consumer electronics devices, creating a roadmap for upcoming content, acting as editor-in-chief, and he rapidly expanded coverage from two product segments to nine over the course of two years.

Seeing an unfulfilled need in the tech community niche, Kurtis went on to co-found an international advertising network, was instrumental in the design of the back-end, front-end, and the customized partner implementations and led it to over 50 partners and $1M in sales in the second year.

DESIGN SERVICES

RESPONSIVE WEB DESIGNER

It has become increasingly important over the years for web designers to keep mobile phone and tablet users in mind, and for many of my clients the scales have officially tipped in favor of the majority of users viewing a website from some type of mobile device. Every user engaging with your brand should have the full experience and access all of the same information and as much of the eye-candy as possible whether viewing the mobile, tablet, or desktop version of your website.

The early stages of the web design process are focused on creating a framework of the elements and information needed to make your website successful in the pursuit of your particular goals. After some initial fact-finding and wire-framing I’ll begin the process of graphic design and mockups until we land on a rough design and style. Moving forward is an iterative and collaborative process to ensure there are no [bad] surprises, and the design drafts will often incorporate more than one option of a given element to help you to visualize the options. Speaking of fully responsive website design, the last step in the process is working backwards from the final desktop-optimized website design and working backwards to make all the needed tweaks to optimize for tablet and phone users.

An important part of a web designer’s job is to make the website search-engine friendly by implementing SEO (search engine optimization) best practices and optimizing page load speed. This helps to ensure that you have some degree of passive marketing through organic search traffic on Google, Yahoo, Bing, and the like. Another important consideration is how to best portray the value of your brand, your products and services. Why should a customer choose your company, product, or service, objectively speaking? Whether through case studies, user reviews and testimonials, or something else, we will clearly convey your company’s WHY so that web visitors turn into customers. Thoughtful incorporation of gentle calls-to-action in your web design in key areas will help to help convert views into sales.

I run a small company with open lines of communication, and when the project is complete, you receive the proverbial keys to your car. While I hope to earn your continued business for maintenance and updates, the choice is yours should you wish to self-maintain or hire another 3rd party for updates. You will have your own hosting account, domain, and a copy of all pertinent files and secure login credentials.

GRAPHIC DESIGNER FOR DIGITAL AND PRINT

Whether you’re starting a small business from scratch, doing a full branding reset, you want an updated look, or just new materials with existing logos and branding, I’m here to help.

Some typical projects I’ve been commissioned to do design work for: new logo, updated logo, vectorize logo, letterhead, invoice and quote template, business card, post card, gift card, coupon, internet ad, promotional materials such as shirts, hats, bags and coasters, user interface design, user experience wireframe design, and the list goes on and on…

Beyond the ‘normal’ projects I also have experience with some other things like creating floorplans and 3D models for residential and commercial remodels as well as custom cabinetry and furniture, I’ve created custom restaurant menus, custom plating for a private chef’s specially curated dining experience… As a creative individual, I find new challenges inspiring, so don’t be shy, let’s create something awesome together.

TESTIMONIALS

From the first day I met Kurtis, I knew he would be someone I could trust to get the job done. Not only would the job get done, it would be completed with expedience and quality. He was eager to jump in to projects and that attitude continues to this day. He never settles for “good enough” as the final answer and “that’s just the way we do it” isn’t the end of the discussion. Kurtis wants to know why an experience was developed a certain way, and how it can be made better. Kurtis has a philosophy that analog and digital experiences are continuously evolving. What was good yesterday may not be good today, and it may not be relevant tomorrow. The customer experience and their perception of that experience is the driving force in discussions concerning customer and back-end feedback.
